Profile

Sharron leads an ecosystem of research, teaching, and innovation that drives meaningful change in sexual and reproductive health, with a particular focus on midlife/menopause and the sexual health and wellbeing of older adults. Her work brings together research, human rights, public engagement, and partnerships beyond academia to challenge stigma, influence practice, and develop innovative resources that make a difference to people’s lives.

She works with service providers and organisations to support them to become more age-friendly and informed about sexual rights, helping to create services and environments where people can age with dignity, respect, and choice. Example resources include:

  • : a set of resources designed to ensure that people are treated with dignity and respect in relation to their sexuality as they age. The Charter is currently I use across three domains: health care, social care, and the community.

  • Age of Love: a collaboration with Sheffield artist Pete McKee that challenges the myths and misconceptions about the intimate relationships of older adults. The Age of Love has been developed into an, in partnership with Kit Green, as well as a series of wellbeing cafés with charity partners in Sheffield and Northampton.

  • : a public health website dedicated to providing accessible, evidence-based information about sexual health and wellbeing as people get older. Designed for both the public and professionals, it addresses an often-overlooked aspect of healthy ageing.

Sharron’s work has been recognised through a number of awards, including the President’s Medal from the Market Research Society, the national Girl Up Award from She Inspires, and the Public Engagement Award from the British Psychological Society’s North East England Branch.

She holds a PhD and a BSc (Hons) in Psychology. Find out more about her work via her and.
